May 20 (King World News) – Otavio Costa: Gold miners are now doing more share buybacks than at any other point in history.
We have never seen anything remotely close to the scale of what is happening today.
This is a direct consequence of the extraordinary profitability the sector is generating at current metal prices.

Peter Boockvar: While the incoming Fed Chair Warsh made today’s minutes even older news than what took place 3 weeks ago, there wasn’t much new that we didn’t already know. To the title of this short piece, this is what was said:
“Several participants highlighted that it would likely be appropriate to lower the target range for the federal funds rate once there are clear indications that disinflation is firmly back on track or if solid signs emerge of greater weakness in the labor market.”
“A majority of participants highlighted, however, that some policy firming would likely become appropriate if inflation were to continue to run persistently above 2 percent.”
And as seen with the dissents, “many participants indicated that they would have preferred removing the language from the post meeting statement that suggested an easing bias regarding the likely direction of the Committee’s future interest rate decisions.”
I have nothing more to add and Treasury yields didn’t respond, still down on the day.
