Jason Goepfert of SentimenTrader warned: “Small speculators in index futures went to $6 billion short this week. New all-time extreme (see charts below).
Last week, we took a look at small speculators in index futures, as they had gone net short by $2 billion. They increased that substantially this week, to $6 billion. That’s the largest position they have ever held against S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and DJIA futures, exceeding the previous record in March 1995 (see chart above).”
King World News note: It will be very interesting to see if the small speculator shorts make money as the stock market continues to decline, or if the commercials rally the market in order to cause a short squeeze by forcing out the small speculator shorts.
