Friday’s Comex shutdown has sparked wild stories about a meltdown in the silver market.
November 30 (King World News) – Eric King: “Alasdair, what a wild day. We had the CME shutdown on Friday, and this went on for hours, and those of us in the background were saying, ‘They’re losing control of the price of silver.’ And this is an issue. So they shut trading down, and then they reopened trading later and the price of silver proceeded to go higher and higher.”
Alasdair Macleod: “Yes (laughter), the Comex shut down for 10 hours. And as you can imagine there are all sorts of stories going around in the market. There is one story that silver futures buy orders were suspended or canceled during that 10-hour trading halt. Another story coming out of China is that an authorized participant, which is one of the big banks that acts as a feed into the big ETFs like the SLV ETF, apparently there was one standing for delivery for some incredible amount of physical silver. I think it was something like 400 million ounces of silver that was referenced, which is absolutely crazy.
