Look at what China is going while locked in an economic war with the United States.

May 7 (King World News) – Gerald Celente:  During a 29 April visit to the city of Shanghai, Chinese president Xi Jinping called for continuing work to establish the country as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and emphasized China’s place as a leader of what he called the “Global South.”

He did not mention the U.S. trade war but “the implicit message was clear,” Reuters noted. “China can develop its own leading technology and has alternative markets.”

“It’s a show of strength,” Alfred Wu, a China scholar at the National University of Singapore, said in a statement. “China wants to offer an alternative to the world against the U.S.-dominant global order.”

Xi urged Shanghai—China’s largest city, with a population approaching 30 million—to speed its effort to transform itself into a world-leading center of technology and innovation, government news agency Xinhua reported.

Xi also prodded the city to redouble its work in AI development and called for additional government policies to support the technology’s advancement.

While in the city, Xi stopped by the Shanghai headquarters of the New Development Bank, which lends to member nations of the BRICS trading bloc. Dilma Rousseff, the bank’s president, is the former president of Brazil.

China stands ready to deepen its involvement with the bank’s funded projects and advise BRICS nations on development, Xi added. The development of the Global South has become a key force ensuring world peace, he said.

The idea of a “Global South” provides an alternative to the term “Third World,” which has pejorative connotations.

At November’s G20 meeting in Brazil, Xi outlined an array of steps China plans to take to support economic and social development of the region.

TREND FORECAST:
As we have detailed, The Trends Journal forecasts that China will lead the AI world.

We have noted that before Beijing was brought into the World Trade Organization, just 10 percent of Chinese 18-year-olds went to college. Now, 25 years later, almost 70 percent go to college. Thus, with the younger generation being hi-tech and AI addicted, they will use their college-skills to increase their artificial intelligence skills.

The proof is already seen in DeepSeek, the Chinese AI that was created using smaller chips and at a fraction of the U.S. AI costs.

TRENDPOST:
For more than two decades, China has quietly laid a foundation for its leadership in Asia and Africa. More recently, it has built trade ties with Brazil and other Latin American countries.

It has positioned itself effectively as a leader of the bloc of nations not aligned with the U.S. Those nations are growing in economic power while many Western countries struggle.

With Donald Trump being more unpopular in many nations, China will now exert that leadership to create a formidable economic tribe of nations that forge a variety of new trade and aid pacts and leave the U.S. on the outside looking in.
