White House hopefuls embrace late-night comedy shows

By day, White House hopefuls make speeches, meet voters and kiss babies. Late-night talk shows — which are taped in the evening and broadcast just before midnight — are an institution in American television. Traditional viewing audiences have waned, but are still in the millions — not too shabby for a presidential candidate looking to boost his or her profile before the primaries.

He can’t even remember where he got the tattered, sweat-stained, beige baseball cap with the white embroidered “Catskill Mountains” stitching. But he knows one thing for sure — he’s not taking it off anytime soon, and definitely not during production.
