Leeb:  “You have to ask yourself this about the Chinese, in such dramatic contrast to us, why are they encouraging their citizens, I’m not saying not forbidding them, I’m saying actively encouraging them them on TV, etc., to buy gold?....

Eric King:  “Why are they doing that as you see it Stephen?

Leeb:  “One reason could be that they want their citizens to (eventually) turn in some of their gold, and they (the Chinese government) will turn it into currency for them.  That’s great.  They are already setting up the mechanism for a gold standard.

Eric, the implications here are just phenomenal.  You have to believe the Chinese have completely lost their minds in order not to believe that they are looking at gold in the multi-thousand dollar range.  That’s the only way this makes sense.  They are looking at gold as a central player in a new reserve currency.  Who in the world would want (to hold) the dollar from a foreigners’ perspective?  You (also) have this incredible alliance forming between China, Russia and Germany.”

Leeb added:  “Silver has been lagging.  One stock I would keep an eye on, but you can’t buy it unless you are living in Taiwan, is called Giga Solar.  It’s the only pure play on using silver as part of solar.  That stock has gone from $200 in mid-2013, to $483 today.  It has been a rocket ship.

Now what makes a stock like that a rocket ship is demand for silver in photovoltaics, and that is exactly where the Chinese are going.  We are trying to get there too but we are not going to have any help from our government.  The Chinese will.  So the argument (for higher prices) as we start 2014 for both gold and silver, gold as a monetary metal, and silver as both a monetary and industrial metal, are very strong.”
